| There was a movie called Avatar a while back that featured breathtaking views of what many of us thought was a magnificently misty fantasy world filled with enormous stone pillars and teeming with natural beauty. I later found out this setting was not created out of nothing. It was based on a real place.
Today, the majority of people I know associate China with a nation whose disregard for the environment in favour of economic expansion has seen pollution spiral out of control. Well, China is a big country, and not all parts of it are like the pictures or stories we are fed. For now, one still has an opportunity to visit Wulingyuan in Hunan province with its 200+ metre high sandstone towers, countless streams, pools, waterfalls, and the rest of its scenic wonder.
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is one of four areas that make up Wulingyuan. Others are the Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, the Suoxiyu Natural Resource Reserve, and the Yangjiajie Scenic Area.
